Missouri has changed the CE Rules, and there has been a lot of Misinformation about the change. In short, the Missouri Board has changed our CE Law, requiring that of our 48 hours, 12 MUST be In-Person, In-Seat hours (AKA Butt Time) but this DOES NOT Start until Our NEXT Renewal Starting in March 1, 2027. here’s a chart explaining the changes:

Why was this change made? Ostensibly, the change was made because we are a hands-on profession and The Board felt that we should have hands-on training. However, other hands-on practitioners, such as dentists, massage therapists, pharmacists, and in particular, all surgeons of all specialties have been allowed to do 100% of their hours online for years.
However, a certain unnamed organization putting on in person seminars felt they were not making enough money. So they went to the board, and pushed this through. In short, rather than adapt and give chiropractors what they want, they caused the rules to be changed to force you to purchase in person classes whether you like them or not.
Originally, this was to take effect immediately, and you would have had to have gotten 12 hours in person before February 28th, whether you had already taken all of your CE hours or not (we had already booked Hotels for CE Seminars in St. Louis and Kansas City for November 2026). This was not a well thought out move, and I’m sure that the phones have been ringing off the hook once word got out. Last week, the board’s website and the official rules had been changed to state that you had to get 12 hours in person before February 28th. Today, the board’s website magically says it doesn’t take effect until the next renewal period starting in2027.
So if you enjoy in person seminars, do nothing. If this Rule change stands, we will be back in person, just like the good old days, for your 12 hours of butt time in November of 2027.
If you don’t like this change, then be vocal. Contact your state board. Maybe contact every individual member directly. Write letters. Send emails. Also tell your state association to lobby to get this rule changed because the majority of its members do not want this.
