Objective:  To teach the doctor and staff how to incorporate the key elements of documentation as derived from the national standards in order to produce patient documentation that will contain the required information avoid committing fraud and abuse.
 
Timeline:
 
Hour 1:   Maintenance Care and the ABN – A review of the standards for maintenance care, the documentation requirement for maintenance care, and the current procedures for completing the Advanced Beneficiary Notice of Non-coverage.
 
Hour 2:   Maintenance Care and the ABN – A review of the standards for maintenance care, the documentation requirement for maintenance care, and the current procedures for completing the Advanced Beneficiary Notice of Non-coverage.  Documenting the Treatment Visit – A review of the standards and proper procedures for documenting the treatment visit. Correcting Errors – A review of the correct procedures for correcting errors in medical documentation without committing fraud or abuse. 
 
Hour 3:   Narrative Example – Routine Initial Visit – A review of sample documentation for the Routine Initial Visit. Narrative Example – Routine Treatment Visit – A review of sample documentation for the Routine Treatment Visit. Narrative Example – Routine Re-exam Visit – A review of sample documentation for the Routine Re-exam Visit.
 
Hour 4:   Narrative Example – Routine Re-exam Visit – A review of sample documentation for the Routine Re-exam Visit. Narrative Example – Routine Discharge Visit – A review of sample documentation for the Routine Discharge Visit.
 
Approved For Continuing Education Credit in Illinois, Kansas, and Missouri. PACE courses are accepted for Continuing Education Credit by The State Boards of Alaska, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming. The State Board of Colorado does not pre-approve courses, but this class meets the criteria set forth by their respective boards.
